Aldric Owr removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes. He picked up the cellphone from his desk, toggled to the encrypted messaging app and thumbed it open.
He searched through contact options until he found B-Or.
Aldric waited for the connection to establish and then began typing.
“Good morning, Blake. I need you to look into the fire at the Gulp N Go. I’m receiving reports of a strange origin for the fire that I need you to investigate further. - A.Owr”
There was a moments pause before he received a reply.
“Okay, dad, I’m on it. Anything else? I’m bored out of my mind here.”
Aldric chuckled, waited a moment and then wrote back.
“Hit the skies, son. See if you can find any new recruits. Just don’t let anyone see you.”
Blake sat on the bed in his hotel room. He grinned at the order to go on patrol and rolled his eyes at the second part of the message.
“Yes, sir! I’ll be careful, I promise. Thanks dad, love you.”
Blake looked at his phone, smiled and hopped off the bed.
He walked out of his hotel room. It was just after dawn. The parking lot and the nearby highway were empty and silent.
Just the same, Blake walked behind the building towards the alleyway and dumpsters.
Blake looked to the right and then the left. He waited several beats to make sure he couldn’t hear anything.
Once he was convinced he heard nothing, he smiled, rolled his shoulders and shot straight into the air.
Back in his office, Aldric smiled, typed out one last message and put the phone down.
“You too, son.”
