I Don’t Appreciate Teachers
You read that right and I’m sticking to it. I appreciate and am deeply indebted to true EDUCATORS.
True educational standouts like my remedial math teacher in 8th grade. He helped to bridge the gap between my blind hatred of math and the grudging respect I have for the subject to this day.
He did this while absorbing a torrent of disrespect and generally shameful treatment from his ingrate class, and he did it with a smile.
I appreciate my college American history teacher. In a dead of night class she could have easily done on autopilot, she proceeded to make the founding fathers and other important Americans into three dimensional men and women. I still feel I know American history best because of her lessons.
I love my 12th grade English teacher who made stories and poems come alive, helped my craft the lyrics to the first songs I ever wrote and taught me life and marriage lessons I still hold dear.
I treasure educators like my mother and father who taught various levels of school throughout their long careers and taught me how to be a good man.
I have witnessed great education this year. However, more than ever, I’ve seen teachers be stubborn, close-minded, histrionic, prone to outright lies and downright stupid.
I love and appreciate TRUE educators. However, I refuse to give blanket appreciation to this class of teachers who do not deserve it. You want appreciation, “teachers”? Earn it.
