Save your strength
If you’re at all like me, it’s hard to let your mind settle on anything besides the chaos we’re living through.
I know it’s taking up too much of my thoughts and stealing attention away from important things I need to do but it’s hard to break free. The pull of all this darkness is perversely magnetic.
I can’t keep this up, though, and you shouldn’t either. I heard someone wiser than me say that we need to settle in for a long fight one way or another and I believe they are right.
If we’re doing to do that, we have to start to build up endurance, and the best way I think we can do that right now is to force ourselves to periodically disengage and take a breath.
Take time to call someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Read a bit more of that book you put down because you couldn’t focus. If you have young children, make a point of playing outside or doing something fun you don’t ordinarily do.
Take a break from social media, even the far superior conservative outlets, and spend time around friends and family.
Make no mistake. We are in a war right now. If we’re going to win it, we have to stay fresh and sharp. If, like me, you’re feeling a little mentally, emotionally and spiritually fatigued, I encourage you to intentionally pause to do things you enjoy and spend time with people you love.
Lastly, for anyone reading this who is a Christian, make sure to spend time in the Word and in prayer. I don’t do either one nearly enough, and I can tell my spirit needs the nourishment that can only come from the word and the presence of God.
Have a blessed evening, fighters! Take a breath and get some rest. We will fight smart and we will win.
