Rab Dachlush fell to earth, landing with an unceremonious thunk.
The exo-suit shielded him from the full force of the impact, but the initial shock rang his bell pretty good, so he took a moment to get his bearings.
Standing up, he wiped condensation off of his visor and looked slowly from side to side.
The humidity hit him like a closed fist even through the inch thick shielding of the visor. It threatened to send him to the ground again, but he barely managed to fight it off.
He checked his vitals and verified that everything was in an acceptable, if slightly overheated range.
Instinctively, his right hand reached for his hip holster… and closed on thin air.
“No, nope, unh-uh, no way, that’s not gonna work. “ he muttered, sweeping the entire suit with his hands and then searching the ground around his feet.
He found mud, grass, and more than one stick that he thought was his particle revolver, but not the real thing.
Rab was just about to resign himself to venturing into the unknown unarmed when he saw a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye.
He turned his head to catch sight of it, and he thought he saw something dart away into a dense knot of massive trees on his left side.
He walked slowly towards the motion, making sucking noises as his boots sank into and back out of clinging pungent mud thicker than any he’d ever seen.
Rab paused just outside of the dense forest in front of him, peering in tentatively.
A glint of silver flitted across his vision then disappeared. He strained his eyes, trying to see further into the intense darkness of the canopy inside.
That’s when he saw it. A creature darted briefly into view. It was hard to make it out at first, but with an effort he could make out its outline crouching just out of reach.
Rab could see stark yellow eyes, the impression of long sharp claws scratching the forest floor… and his revolver clutched in a set of razor sharp teeth.
He took a calming breath, rolled his shoulders, and was about to take a step forward when an immense hand gripped his collar and began dragging him backwards.
Rab yelped, flailing wildly as an enormous beast dragged him helplessly in its wake.
He slammed into rocks, slid halfway into unseen ravines, and covered the suit in enough sticky clots of mud to fashion a mud clone of himself.
The creature's dragging path started to slope slowly uphill. In between screams, Rab tried again and again to reach the glowing red button on his right arm.
The super simian turned sharply left over uneven ground and Rab seized the opportunity. As he bounced off the rocky surface, he mashed the button down with all his might.
His suit buckled and shimmered and he disappeared from view in an instant.
All except for one muddy boot, which remained in the massive hand of a confused and agitated ape man.
